This year, in India alone, over 10 states have faced the devastating effects of floods- repeatedly. Between June and the start of September, reports of flooding in Assam, Gujarat, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal frequented the news.

The need of the hour is a much more structured and well-functioning flood management system. But what system is currently at work in the country? What are its flaws? What can be done to improve this? Let’s find out.
