Cooling India’s Urban Poor Houses Down

Urban Poor settlements can be found in huge numbers across the country’s metropolitan cities. Generally home to daily wage labourers and low-income families, these settlements are more often than not cramped into small bits of land that struggle to accommodate the size of the population living here. It’s no surprise then, that these settlements have issues ranging from poor sanitation to a low ability to deal with changing temperatures.

One of the big issues that Urban Poor settlements face, is to do with heat. With summers in India touching (and in some parts crossing) 50 degrees celsius, communities in these settlements often find it unbearable to stay in their homes. It’s to tackle this issue that organisations like C Balance are developing low-cost and innovate solutions that can possibly be applied at scale. Here’s how.
