In the past few years, there has been a rapid adoption of emerging technologies such as facial recognition software by Governments across the globe and within India. Although there are a number of significant benefits associated with these technologies from better efficiency to more safety, there lies the possibility of misuse, which could be exacerbated when it is done by an authoritative figure. In this light, how can a nation’s citizenry, civil society and research bodies come together to hold the State accountable in order to ensure that these technologies are being adopted in a fair, robust and transparent manner without being misused?
