While the government has announced numerous schemes to help the economically weaker sections cope with the lockdown and economic distress, a significant section of our country—the fisherfolk—have been left in a state of limbo. Close to 1.6 crore fishing workers are responsible for the staple diet of many of our states, especially in the coastal region. Yet, they are struggling to survive and find their way back home to their families. As they look to the government for relief, some organizations like Dakshin Foundation have come forward to offer a helping hand.
