At The Bastion, we cover India’s development story, focusing on education, environment, and sports policies (for now). But there’s so much more to development beyond that. A ‘developed’ democratic country doesn’t just mean a rich country: it has to have strong democratic institutions, strong media ecosystems, and strong checks in place to counter powerful leaders too. When all of these factors align, you’re on the road to relative national stability, accountability, and better policies and governance. Keeping that in mind, we thought we’d do a little review of India’s development journey right now, at this very moment. While developments are certainly taking place, are they the kinds we want happening at all?
