India’s push towards Electric Vehicles is evident from policies and ecosystems being developed. While this is an encouraging step, reorienting the focus to a just transition—a conversation that is usually dominated by the shift from coal to renewables— is necessary. How is India preparing to move employment opportunities towards electric vehicles, especially for those who lose their jobs in the conventional internal combustion engine automobiles? Since EVs are also projected to reduce fossil fuel dependence, we also must ask where the electricity to charge these vehicles is coming from.
