In every sector, be it agriculture, industrial pro In every sector, be it agriculture, industrial production, education, transportation, energy, or sanitation, our models of growth and development are profit-led, ultimately revealing persistent socioeconomic inequalities between men and women. Whether inadvertent or not, development strategies at the national, state and local levels accentuate this gender inequality.
This paradigm of development is at odds with the United Nations’ (UN) 2030 agenda of achieving 17 goals of sustainable development, all of which emphasize the idea of “leaving no one behind”.
Piyush Narang argues that integrating Gender Equality into the implementation of the remaining SDGs will trigger a positive multiplier effect: it may guard against the widespread perils of gender-based exploitation and marginalisation.

With a population of around 5,000 people or 1,650 families, Redi has also been a centre of iron ore mining in the Western Ghats. While mining has brought with it some economic prosperity, it has overwhelmingly negatively impacted the health of Redi’s residents, and the overall ecology of this biodiverse region.

In 2020 alone, over 84,000 individuals were forced In 2020 alone, over 84,000 individuals were forced out of their homes for “ostensible environmental” reasons, which ranged from riverfront beautification and river restoration projects, to afforestation programs, to wildlife conservation measures. Zooming into four cases—Karnataka’s Nagarhole forests, Delhi’s Yamuna floodplain, Chennai’s Cooum River restoration project, and Assam’s Darrang district—@vaishnavi.rathore highlights that there might be more factors at play here that intertwine with the politically-contested paradigms of conservation and environment in India. Featuring expert insights from Roy David of the National Adivasi Alliance, @omja1996 of @newindianexpress, Dev Pal of the Housing and Land Rights Network, and Suraj Gogoi, PhD candidate in Sociology at @nus_singapore working on water, citizenship, and the State in Northeast India. The Evolution of Mental Health Policy in India: A The Evolution of Mental Health Policy in India: A Timeline. With the loss of lives, freedoms and other things due to the COVID19 pandemic, there has been a rise in symptoms of anxiety and depression. This has led to the stigma around mental health being reduced, and mental health has become one of the major talking points in public health discourse in India and around the world. Workplaces and educational institutions are making more provisions for persons with mental illness, and the discourse is moving from one of shame to one of community and healing.
And this begs the question, how has our perception of mental health and mental health legislation changed over the years? We explore this question through a brief history of the evolution of mental health policy in India, with the help of Arjun Kapoor of @cmhlpindia
